“The Tongue Point Seamanship Program”
Capt. Len Tumbarello
Capt. Tumbarello is the Director of Seamanship & Technical Training at the Tongue Point Job Corps. This program produces proficient, professional and passionate Coast Guard credentialed Merchant Mariners for the critical Maritime industry. Tongue Point has the only seamanship program out of all the 126 Job Corps Centers in the U.S. It has a 95% + completion and placement rating. Capt. Tumbarello will be accompanied by two students currently in the program – Kiano Fea (male from Long Beach, CA) and Ada Gutierrez (female from Astoria).
Capt. Tumbarello retired from the U.S. Coat Guard after 28 yers of distinguished service. His last assignment was the Deputy Commander, Sector Columbia River in Warrenton, Oregon, where he was responsible for all Coast Guard operations throughout the Sector, which included safety, security, environmental protection and maintaining the flow of commerce in all navigable waterways in the area. Sector Columbia River spans the southern half of Washington, all of Oregon and most of Idaho and includes 465 miles of navigable rivers, 420 miles of coastline, 33 ports and 12 river bars.
