A Short Journey Through My Kenai Life

Veja Lahti

Veja Lahti lived in Alaska for nearly thirty years. Her husband, Emery, was Native Alaskan, and very involved in Native politics. Through him, Veja became actively involved in the Native community in Alaska as well. Her experiences illustrate the persistence of Native Alaskans in preserving their culture, heritage, community, and identity, and also the effects of colonization by first the Russians and then by white Americans. Through drumming and storytelling, we will have you experience some of Veja’s life in Kenai, Alaska.
