Hi Everyone,
Now that December is in the rear view mirror and January is going fast, let’s catch up with what’s happening in our active Coffee Klatch groups.
Wisely, our South County group decided to help out the “flatten the curve” campaign and decided to forego a January meeting in view of the Omigod variant. They hope to be back in February.
Astoria CK: the group met at Veja’s, about 10 strong. Many had heard the ships honking in the New Year on Dec. 31. We talked about old cars, the delights of a walk through Ft. Stevens, dancing, dogs and fireworks, the daringly feminist artwork of Judy Chicago which shocked the hoi polloi back in the late 70’s by her scandalous art piece “The Dinner Party”. Don’t remember? Look it up! Hummingbirds at feeders, cougars in cities (even Astoria?), pilot boats and sea otters, and the many artists in our congregation (though not so daringly provocative as Judy Chicago).
Peninsula CK: the group met at the Olde Towne Cafe in Ilwaco, where some of us are regulars. Health and weather were current concerns, particularly with the heavy rains and flooding across the peninsula. We had 7 folks swilling the Thundermuck and devouring the Disappearing Cookies, talking about mango and raspberry smoothies. There’s a strange line in my notes from that day: cyborgs, nostrums, and CBD. Somebody remind me what that was about. The topic of “what to do when/if Kit gets super-old and can’t serve us any more” came up. Terri, our dauntless prez, will bring it up to the board. We also came up with some good ideas for services in the future: April Fools, a talent show, Soap Box Sunday, among others.
Tillamook County CK: it was tsunami advisory day on the West Coast and we all watched for signs of the huge underwater eruption near Tonga, but barely a trace made it to our shores. Three attendees, including a new person, Sandy. Again, Scandinavian heritage was a commonality. We griped a bit about the rights of old cranky ladies and listened to the benefits of parsley tea as a cure-all, plus other natural remedies. The author Jean Auel has been a favorite of these women and one of us had actually babysat her children! A true brush with celebrity!
South County CK: postponed until the darned Curve is decently Flattened and we can meet again. May it be soon!
PUUF services are Zoom only during January and possibly longer. But we will survive, we have done so this long, and we can do it longer if we need to, for the sake of our fellow human beings.
Much love,
Kit
