Solidarity: Celebrating Labor and Labor Day
August 25 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Laura Gordon
On Labor Day we rest and enjoy the last days of summer. We should not forget that the collective actions of organized labor are responsible for us being able to rest, to have an 8 hour work day and a minimum wage. Rising union membership after WWII lead to an expanding middle class, but the decline of unions since the Regan era contributed to widening wealth inequality. Today, labor unions are finding new solidarity across many sectors, which is certainly a reason to celebrate this Labor Day.
