Institutional and Systemic Racism

February 18 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Tina Martineau

Institutional Racism is the term for forms of racism structured into the nation’s political and social institutions. Segregation, red-lining, and other such forms of active racism have been outlawed, but the effects they had are still present today. We must be aware of this and actively work to address these ongoing issues as part of the fight against racism.

Tina has a BS in Sociology with minors in Anthropology and Psychology from Montana State University, where she studied socio-cultural issues, their historical roots, and how they affected different social groups. Her focus on Justice Studies included classes on law and inequality and race and ethnicity. She observed some of these issues and biases first-hand working as a Detention Officer for 6 years at the Gallatin County Detention Center.

~Open hearts, open minds, room for all theologies, including yours~

We are meeting in person at the First Presbyterian Church of Astoria. The service will also be live-streamed via Zoom for those who are not comfortable attending in person. Masks are now optional but strongly advised. If you are not feeling well, please wear a mask, or attend via Zoom.

Religious Education for Children will occur during the regular service.

Contact Adriana at Puufreligioused@Pacuuf.org for more information.

Join us for our Coffee Hour after the service in Fellowship Hall!
