Clifford Galen LaMear
July 24, 1937 – May 14, 2023
Clifford Galen LaMear, 85, passed away peacefully at Columbia Memorial Hospital on May 14th in Astoria, Ore., with his cherished wife Arline by his side.
Cliff was a long time member and supporter of PUUF. He had served on the Board of Trustees in the past. Arline LaMear asks that those so inclined consider donations to:

Cliff was born in Astoria to Anna Belle and Clifford Vern LaMear. He received a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University, and a Master Degree in Professional Engineering from the University of Utah. He spent his professional career with the Veterans Administration as Chief Engineer of hospitals in San Fernando, Helena, Salt Lake City, and Portland/Vancouver.
After retirement, he married Arline Joan Bauska on the replica of the Endeavor, the first ship sailed by Capt. James Cook. They traveled extensively, and Turkey was his favorite destination.
Cliff valued education and supported his daughters’ and grandchildren’s college aspirations. He was a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for 13 years, read to children in the SMART program, served on local committees, and received Bridge Life Master Status. Cliff was known by all as warm-hearted and a good listener.
Cliff was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Phillip Vern LaMear; and his granddaughter, Emerald Liberty. He is survived by his wife, Arline LaMear; daughters, Jina LaMear, Amy Thomas, and Spring Liberty (Matt); stepsons, Todd and Scott Luton; and grandchildren, Aurora and Emerson Thomas, and William LaMear.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., July 24, 2023, at the Astoria Senior Center.
