PUUF greetings for Spring Equinox and Holi!
The Spring Equinox is Sunday, March 20. And by a happy coincidence involving both the Gregorian and Hindu calendars, this weekend marks the days of Holi, a Hindu festival which celebrates the start of Spring and which is notable for its bonfires, its spirit of play, and the way its participants paint their faces or spray one another with bright colors.
Holi is celebrated in India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, and in countries with large immigrant populations from South Asia. Celebrants are mostly Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists, but anyone may participate. Traditionally, the paints used are made from flowers and sold in powdered form.
So…. Paint your face! Paint the town! Spring is here!
This Equinox greeting comes to you from PUUF’s Connections Committee:
Karin Webb, Chair; Naomi Fisher, Lynne Landwehr, and Jen Oderkirk.
